Enabler Boards are made from a thin, lightweight flexible plastic and are elongated oval in shape.
They can be used either in pairs or with the Enabler “Pop-up” Boards to provide a controlled protective sliding interface beneath the patient/client, preventing mechanical damage to the skin from friction and shear. This also makes it easier for carers to insert, remove and adjust hoist slings, x-ray plates, articles of clothing or pillows beneath the patient/client.
The Enabler Boards are available in two sizes only as pairs of each size.
- Large
‐ Small
The Large Enabler Boards have a single hand hold at one end of the board for carrying purposes. They can be used together as Bridging boards with the Large Enabler “Pop-up” Board to laterally transfer patients/clients in both a lying or sitting position across small gaps up to 6 inches wide.
By simply inserting one end of the Large Enabler Board into the pocket of the Large Enabler “Pop‐up” Board and using the attached Large Enabler “Pop-up” Slide Sheet to create a ultra low friction reducing top surface interface beneath the patient/client making it easier to transfer.
The Large Enabler Board has no weight bearing capacity across these small gaps. It is the weight bearing capacities of the two resting surfaces that determine the weight limit that can be transferred.
The Small Enabler Boards (also called Enabler Shimmys) can be used either in pairs or with the Small Enabler ”Pop‐up” Boards by simply inserting one end into the Small Enabler ”Pop-up” Boards pocket as described above. This will make it easier for both the carer to carry out small repositioning tasks and is more comfortable for the patient/client. For example, inserting and adjusting hoist sling leg straps beneath the upper part of the patient/clients legs.
